Uchh (Adinzai)
Uchh (Adinzai), Lower Dir is an ancient Buddhist site located about 9 km north-northwest of Chakdara in Lower Dir District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Historically referred to as Uch, Uchh, or Wuch, it was first visited by L. A. Waddell in 1895, who reported a well-preserved stupa situated south of the village. In 1896, A. Caddy explored the area and documented numerous archaeological remains, including stupas and scattered structural fragments. According to later accounts by Aurel Stein and Dani, the current village of Uchh is believed to be built over ancient ruins, highlighting its long-standing historical significance. The site reflects the presence of Buddhist communities in the region during the Gandharan period, evident through the surviving architecture and early photographic records.

Current Condition
Uchh’s ancient Buddhist stupa—once documented by colonial explorers—now lies buried under modern construction, erased by unchecked urbanization under KP Archaeology’s watch. Only geophysical surveys and community archaeology can reclaim this lost Gandharan site from beneath the village.
