There’s an extraordinary story behind our name — The Pale Blue Dot.

It begins six billion kilometres from Earth, and with Voyager 1 — launched by NASA in 1977, this unmanned spacecraft travelled deep into our solar system, exploring worlds far beyond our own, for thirteen years.

Then, in 1990, it turned its camera around.Back towards home.

From six billion kilometres away, Earth was just a tiny speck of light.Suspended in the darkness of space.

A Pale Blue Dot.

NASA immortalised the moment in a photograph. Space scientist Carl Sagan called it The Pale Blue Dot. And then he looked at that tiny speck and said:

All on one tiny dot of light among the immeasurable vastness of the Universe.The Pale Blue Dot.

It is a perspective that changes how we see the world beneath our feet.
