Lulusar Lake
A long turquoise alpine lake beside the seasonal Naran–Babusar road, forming the principal headwaters of the Kunhar River.
Lulusar is a high-altitude lake in the upper Kaghan Valley and part of the Lulusar–Dudipatsar protected landscape. It lies beside the seasonal road north of Naran and feeds the Kunhar River system. Lulusar is not Dudipatsar Lake, which requires a separate trek, and it is not Babusar Top farther along the road.
Why go
- ✦Turquoise high-altitude lake
- ✦Headwaters of the Kunhar River
- ✦Roadside access in the open season
- ✦Separate identity from Dudipatsar and Babusar
Three Destinations, Three Records
Lulusar is the roadside lake. Dudipatsar is a different alpine lake reached on foot, while Babusar is the high road pass beyond Lulusar. Keeping them separate gives travellers honest journey times and transport requirements.
The Calendar Does Not Open the Road
Access depends on actual snow clearance and current conditions rather than a fixed annual date. Check the upper road locally and keep enough daylight to return before mountain weather deteriorates.
Protect a Sensitive Shoreline
Remain on durable ground, avoid entering or polluting the water, keep distance from wildlife, and carry waste back to serviced settlements.
Planning tip
When to go, Usually June to September, depending on snow clearance and the opening of the upper N-15 toward Babusar. Confirm road status before leaving Naran.
Getting there, Drive north from Naran through Batakundi and Jalkhad on the seasonal Babusar road. The lake is roadside, but snow, landslides, traffic, and weather can close the corridor.
Allow, One to two hours at the lake, usually as part of a longer upper-Kaghan drive.
