Pir Manki Fortress
Pir Manki Fortress is a significant archaeological settlement located east of Mankhrai village.
The site lies at an elevation of 1576 feet and comprises two major components: the Fortress and the Lower City. The fortress measures 54 meters east-west and 29 meters north-south, featuring 3-meter-high enclosure walls with bastions at all four corners—built in diaper masonry, a style common in early historic fortifications. Inside, walls of varying sizes and different structures are exposed, especially on the western side. The adjacent Lower City, explored partially near the Eidgah area, reveals rooms with rough diaper masonry and widespread surface potsherds. The architectural features and material culture strongly suggest that the site dates to the Kushan period, indicating its importance as a fortified urban center during Buddhist-era northern Pakistan.

Current Condition
Pir Manki Fortress, a partially excavated Kushan-era fortified settlement, remains critically endangered due to exposure, looting threats, and institutional neglect by KP archaeology authorities. Despite its significance as a rare Buddhist-period urban center, no conservation measures, site protection, or complete excavations have been implemented, leaving its unique diaper masonry structures and urban layout to gradual destruction.
