Shahkot S (Palai)
Shahkot S (Palai), Swat is an important archaeological site known for the remains of a Buddhist stupa located along the ancient Hathi-lar (Elephant Path).
The traces of this old route are still visible along the hillside. Notably, the site may also preserve marks believed to be Buddha’s footprints, as recorded by Deane in 1896. A place named Takht (meaning throne or platform) is situated nearby, overlooking the Hathi-dara valley. This Takht, documented by Foucher and Farooq Swati, suggests historical significance, though many surrounding structures appear to have served as non-Buddhist check posts.

Current Condition
Shahkot S’s stupa and legendary Buddha footprints along the ancient Elephant Path now survive only as looted ruins under KP Archaeology’s neglect, their connection to the sacred ‘Takht’ platform erased by unchecked destruction. Only emergency documentation of remaining stonework and revival of the Hathi-lar pilgrimage route can salvage this key node in Swat’s Buddhist landscape.
