Stupa of Shnaisha
The Shnaisha Stupa, located in Shanesha village about 5 km from Mingora on the Marghazar road, is a two-tiered circular Buddhist monument from the Gandhara period.
It features a wide base with pilaster decorations and a dome-shaped upper structure. First noted by Aurel Stein and later by Tucci, the site was excavated in 1989, exposing paved floors, connecting trenches, and votive stupas. A relic chamber was accessed from the west, yielding only a fragmentary inscribed casket. The presence of Indo-Corinthian capitals links the site to Kushan-era Buddhist architecture. Artifacts from the site are now housed in the Saidu Museum.

Current Condition
The Shnaisha Stupa’s excavated tiers and relic chamber remain exposed to weathering under KP Archaeology’s passive monitoring, its artifacts exiled to Saidu Museum. Urgent on-site shelters and relic casket conservation are needed to honor this Kushan-era pilgrimage site.
