Bango Sar Carving-I
This remarkable rock carving at Bango Sar features five seated Buddhas in a well-preserved Gandhāran style, measuring approximately 202 cm in width and 68 cm in height.
Dating to the Kushan period (1st-4th century CE), the relief likely served as an important devotional site for Buddhist practitioners in the region. The central Buddha figures are depicted in meditation posture (dhyana mudra), surrounded by smaller attendant figures or decorative elements, though some portions show damage. Located along an ancient route between Gogai and Bango Sar, this panel probably marked a significant stopping point for pilgrims traveling between monastic centers in Buner. The composition's complexity suggests it was created by skilled artisans familiar with Greco-Buddhist artistic traditions.

Current Condition
The Bango Sar five-Buddha panel—a rare and compositionally complex Gandharan masterpiece—retains significant detail but shows clear damage from weathering and human contact, with no physical protection or conservation measures in place despite its exceptional artistic and pilgrimage value. The KP Directorate of Archaeology & Museums has failed to conduct condition assessments, install preventive shielding, or even document the panel digitally, leaving one of Buner’s most important rock reliefs to degrade exposed on the mountainside.
