Ramanrai Stupa
Ramanrai Stupa, often referred to as the hollow stupa, is a prominent Buddhist monument located in the Beshunai–Malakpur area of Buner.
Dating to the Kushan period, it is architecturally notable for its hollow construction, a rare design feature possibly intended for circumambulation or ritual use. Situated at a high elevation of 1630 meters, the site offers strategic visual dominance over the surrounding valley. The stupa likely served as a religious landmark for monastic and lay communities in the region. Its layout suggests association with a broader Buddhist complex, potentially including monastic cells or ancillary shrines. While partly eroded by time, the structural remnants still reflect Gandhāran masonry styles. The site holds archaeological significance for understanding local adaptations of Buddhist architecture.

Current Condition
Ramanrai Stupa, a rare hollow-design Buddhist monument from the Kushan period, remains partially intact but damaged and exposed to natural erosion, with its elevated location offering no protection from decay or human interference. The KP Directorate of Archaeology & Museums has neglected to document, conserve, or even study this architecturally unique stupa—despite its significance for understanding Gandharan ritual innovation and visual dominance strategies in the Beshunai Valley.
