Bango Sar Carving-Ii
This ancient rock carving, located in Buner District, depicts a standing Buddha in the classical Gandhāran style, measuring 2 feet tall and 1.5 feet wide.
Dating to the Kushan period (1st–4th century CE), it reflects the region's significance as a center of Buddhist art and devotion. The figure's facial features are damaged, likely due to natural erosion or human activity over centuries. Similar reliefs in Gandhāra often adorned monastic complexes or pilgrimage routes, suggesting this site had religious importance. Its modest size indicates it may have been a votive offering or part of a larger artistic ensemble. The carving provides valuable insight into the spread of Buddhist iconography in this mountainous region.

Current Condition
The Bango Sar Buddha carving remains exposed and deteriorating, its Gandharan-era features eroded by weather and time, with no conservation or protective measures in place despite its documented artistic and historical significance. The KP Directorate of Archaeology & Museums has consistently failed to stabilize, document, or shelter this vulnerable rock art—allowing a once-devotional icon to slowly vanish from both the landscape and collective memory.
