Barikot Ghundai
Barikot Ghundai, located in Swat district, Pakistan, is an important archaeological site where a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu was discovered.
The temple, built around 1,300 years ago during the Hindu Shahi period, is the first of its kind found in the region. Alongside the temple, traces of cantonments, watchtowers, and a water tank used for bathing before worship were also found. The Gandhara civilization, which flourished in this region from the 1st millennium BCE to the 2nd millennium CE, was known for its diverse religious influences, including Buddhism. The area, home to cities like Takshasila and Purushapura, was rich in Buddhist heritage, with many stupas and monasteries. This discovery adds to the cultural and religious history of the Swat Valley, blending both Hindu and Buddhist traditions.

While research continues to reveal Swat's multicultural past, the site faces threats from erosion and urban encroachment, demanding urgent conservation to protect its fragile remains.
