Nali Valley Buddhist Rock Art, Dadu
The Nali Valley in Dadu District, Sindh, is confirmed as a Buddhist site due to its extensive rock art depicting stupas and viharas, carved into rock walls, caves, and shelters.
These engravings include domed and tower-like stupas, some dating back to the 1st–2nd century A.D., as seen at sites like Pipal Kumb, Chuchar Dhoro, Chiti, Kalri, and Sado Mazo. Distinct architectural forms, such as pillared stupas and multi-storey tower stupas, reflect artistic connections to Gandhara and early Sindhi Buddhist traditions. Alongside stupas, a few monastery (vihara) depictions and Brahmi inscriptions have also been documented. This rock art evidences Buddhism's deep cultural roots in Sindh.

Current Condition
The Buddhist rock art of Nali Valley in Dadu remains unprotected and exposed to weathering and vandalism. Despite its historical significance, there is no official preservation or on-site management. The site is not under any department’s protection but has been studied by scholars like Zulfiqar Ali Kalhoro.

Best Time to Visit, December to February, with a local guide. The engraved stupas at Pipal Kumb, Chuchar Dhoro and other spots in the Nali valley in the Kirthar hills are unprotected and far from facilities, and summer heat here is extreme.
