Clifton Beach
Clifton Beach, 'Sea View' to most Karachiites, is the great public seafront of Pakistan's largest city: a long sweep of grey-gold sand along the Arabian Sea where crowds come to walk, ride camels and horses, eat roasted corn, and watch the sun drop behind the Karachi skyline. It is not a pristine wilderness beach but a vibrant, characterful slice of urban Pakistan, at its best in the cool evening light when the tide is out and the wet sand turns mirror-bright.

Karachi's Front Yard
Clifton is where Karachi comes to breathe. On any given evening the sand fills with families, couples, hawkers, photographers, and children on pony rides, the air thick with the smell of roasting corn and the calls of vendors. It is loud, busy, and unmistakably alive, the social heart of a city of over 20 million people. Come for the human spectacle as much as the sea, and stay until the skyline lights up across the bay.
Around Clifton
The beach is the anchor of one of Karachi's most interesting districts. A short ride inland stands Mohatta Palace, a pink Rajasthani-stone mansion turned art museum; nearby is the domed shrine of the city's patron saint, Abdullah Shah Ghazi, lively with devotees especially on Thursday evenings. Clifton also holds some of Karachi's best restaurants, cafés, and shopping, easy to fold into a half-day around the seafront.
Safety in the Water
Clifton is a place to walk and watch, not to swim seriously. The Arabian Sea here has strong undertows and rip currents, drownings happen every year, and there is no developed lifeguard service, during the monsoon the sea is especially dangerous. Paddle at the edge if you like, keep children close, and treat the beach as a social and scenic destination rather than a bathing one.
Planning tip
When to go, November to February for the most pleasant weather; any evening year-round for the sunset crowds. Avoid the water during the monsoon (July-August), when currents turn dangerous.
