Natmira (Najigram, Barikot)
Natmira (Najigram, Barikot), Swat is an archaeological site identified by Aurel Stein in 1930.
Located over 2 km from Barikot along the Najigram road, the site lies within terraced cultivation areas. Stein observed several walled-up terraces, with ancient stonework incorporated into farming structures. A particularly notable feature was a large pointed recess or niche in one of the terrace walls, measuring about 30 feet in height, which Stein believed likely held a large Buddha image in ancient times. Scattered ruins were also found throughout the site, resembling the Buddhist architectural remnants Stein had seen earlier in the Kotah valley. However, Stein’s examination was limited due to time constraints, leaving the site’s full extent and details largely unexplored.

Current Condition
Natmira’s colossal 30-foot Buddha niche—once a landmark on Barikot’s sacred periphery— now survives only as a ghostly indent in farmland terraces under KP Archaeology’s neglect, its carved walls cannibalized for modern agriculture. Only LiDAR scanning of the Kotah-style ruins and soil analysis of the niche floor can digitally resurrect this lost devotional giant before even its memory fades.
