Field guide · Nature
High alpine lake above Dowarian in the Neelum Valley, fed by glacial meltwater and ringed by wildflower meadows in summer.
Ratti Gali is a glacier-fed alpine lake high above the Neelum Valley, reached by a jeep track and a final climb from Dowarian. In summer the surrounding bowl fills with wildflowers and reflected snow peaks.
Why go
The final approach is steep and the air thin, pace yourself and carry layers, as weather turns quickly at altitude. Camps and tea tents appear in peak season; outside it, the basin is empty and cold.
Ratti Gali combines naturally with a slow drive up the Neelum, Keran, Sharda, and Kel, rather than a single dash to the lake and back.
GreenPak does not yet run a property in the Neelum Valley. Use Plan a trip to arrange Neelum logistics, permits near the border, jeeps, and timing, with the travel team.
Planning tip
Best Time to Visit, Late June to September, once the track clears. Mornings are clearest before afternoon cloud builds over the bowl.
Getting there, Drive the Neelum Valley road to Dowarian, then take a 4x4 jeep up the rough track, followed by a short hike or pony ride to the lake.
Allow, A long day from Dowarian, or an overnight camp by the lake.
