This brick stepwell at Wan Bhachran in Mianwali district dates from the time of Sher Shah Suri. A long flight of steps runs down to the water. For the first 24 metres or so the steps are open to the sky; below that they pass under a dome and arched roofs. Two minarets mark the entrance, a feature the register says is found on no other building of its kind.

History

Sher Shah Suri (ruled 1540–1545) built wells and sarais along his roads so travellers could find water and shelter. This baoli is protected by the federal government and listed as PB-101.
