Altit Fort
At around 1,100 years old, Altit Fort is the oldest standing monument in Hunza, a watchtower and residence perched directly over a sheer drop to the Hunza River gorge below Karimabad. It predates Baltit Fort as the seat of Hunza's rulers, who later moved to Baltit, leaving Altit to fall into disrepair until the Aga Khan Trust for Culture restored it in the 2000s alongside the surrounding old village.

Why go
- ✦Hunza's oldest monument, roughly 1,100 years old
- ✦Watchtower directly above the Hunza River gorge
- ✦Restored royal gardens (Shikari Bagh) beside the fort
- ✦Older than, and predecessor to, Baltit Fort as the seat of Hunza's rulers
Older Than Baltit
Altit was the original seat of Hunza's rulers before the family moved to Baltit Fort, and its watchtower, built directly over the gorge edge, is the oldest structure of its kind in the valley. The Aga Khan Trust for Culture's restoration also revived the surrounding village and the Shikari Bagh gardens, now a quiet stop after the fort itself.
