Ghalegay Rock Carving
Ghalegay is a village in Swat Valley, located 14 km south of Mingora along the Swat River.
It was once the capital of Swat in 1849 and played a significant role in the formation of Swat State in 1915. The village's economy relies on agriculture, with many residents studying or working abroad. Ghalegay is also known for its strong education system and a Human Welfare Association that improves infrastructure and offers vocational training, particularly for women. A prominent landmark is the Shingardar Stupa, built by King Uttarasena in the 2nd century AD to house Buddha's relics. This historic Buddhist site is made of large stones and slate, though its preservation has been impacted by modern development.
