Shingardar Stupa
The Shingardar Stupa, Located near Barikot, the Stupa of Shankardar is one of Swat’s largest and most prominent Buddhist monuments, dating to the 1st–3rd century CE.
It features a square base, cylindrical drum, and a raised dome adorned with Gandharan-style pilasters and cornices. Despite damage from stone robbing and modern encroachment, the dome remains largely intact, standing about 27 meters high. Historical sources link it to King Uttarasena, mentioned by Xuanzang. Built with white limestone and schist, it retains traces of stucco and possible relics in its central cavity. Restoration work was done in the 1970s–80s.
