Upper Swat
Kalam is the base for Mahodand Lake, the Ushu pine forest, and the road toward Gabral and Kumrat. Budget time, not distance, the roads are scenic and slow.
Gandhara roots
Around Mingora, the Butkara stupa and Swat Museum trace the valley's Buddhist past, an easy pairing with the mountains above.
