Kachkol Paty Site
The site at Kachkol Paty near Katkala (also known as Ashezo) represents a historically layered location with remains from both the early Buddhist and pre-Buddhist periods.
Situated along the route from Katkala to Kachkol Paty, this square-shaped site may have once housed a stupa, monastic compound, or religious platform. The dual-period significance indicates long-term human occupation and evolving religious practices over centuries. Its relatively low elevation and fertile landscape suggest it was part of an agrarian settlement supporting religious life. The site could yield valuable archaeological material if properly excavated. Unfortunately, like many similar sites in the Buner region, it has not received heritage protection. Continuous land use and development threaten to erase its historical features.

Current Condition
Kachkol Paty’s layered sacred landscape—spanning pre-Buddhist and early Buddhist eras— has been flattened by bulldozers and ploughs under KP Archaeology’s indifference, its potential to rewrite Swat’s religious chronology now buried under wheat fields without a single legal challenge or soil test. Only urgent phosphate mapping and deep-core sampling can resurrect the ghost of this multi-millennial spiritual hub before fertilizer erases its last chemical traces.
