Kafero Kote (Jafar)
Kafero Kote (also known as Jafar), located near Barjokāñra, is a partly intact Buddhist site likely dating to the Gandhāran period.
Its strategic location along the Barjokāñra to Kafero Kote route suggests it may have functioned as a small monastic site, stupa platform, or watchpoint linked to religious activity. The partially preserved remains hint at architectural significance—possibly walls, foundations, or base structures of a stupa. Its elevation and layout fit well with the terrain typically chosen for Buddhist meditation and worship sites in Buner. The site’s name ("Kote" meaning fort) may also reflect historical re-use during later periods. Despite its incomplete preservation, it remains valuable for archaeological investigation. Its survival underlines the need for protection of lesser-known Buddhist heritage spots.
