Manrai Bar Banda (Girarai Dara) is an ancient Buddhist archaeological site from the Kushan period, located in Buner district.
It lies between the areas of Girarai and Bar Banda, covering an estimated area of 400 by 300 meters. The site is believed to have served as a monastic retreat or religious complex, possibly including stupas or meditation structures. Its positioning within the valley suggests it provided a peaceful setting for Buddhist monks and practitioners. The region reflects strong Gandhāran influence, characteristic of Kushan-era Buddhist culture. Stone remains and surface traces indicate long-standing human and religious activity. However, the site remains largely unexcavated and undocumented in detail.

Current Condition
Manrai’s 400×300-meter monastic complex—a Kushan-era retreat nestled in Buner’s sacred valley—is being devoured by unchecked housing and farming under KP Archaeology’s inaction, its stupa foundations and meditation cells fragmented by ploughs and land- grabbing. Only immediate demarcation, drone-based mapping, and a community-led conservation zone can rescue this extensive Gandharan sanctuary from total assimilation into modern sprawl.
