Mubarak Village Beach

Mubarak Village is a traditional Baloch fishing settlement at the far northwestern edge of Karachi, where the city finally gives way to the empty Makran coast. Its sheltered bay, calm turquoise shallows backed by ochre desert hills, is a quieter, cleaner alternative to Karachi's busy city beaches, and the launch point for boat trips to Churna Island.

Fishing boats line the shore, the swimming is gentle, and the pace is slow; this is where Karachiites come to escape the crowds for snorkelling, beach days, and fresh seafood cooked by the village.

Why go

  • Calm turquoise bay for swimming
  • Gateway to Churna Island
  • Traditional Baloch fishing village
  • Fresh seafood on the beach
  • Quieter than Karachi's city beaches

A Fishing Village Escape

Mubarak Village feels a world away from central Karachi despite being inside the metropolitan boundary. Wooden fishing boats are drawn up on the sand, nets dry in the sun, and the bay's sheltered geography keeps the water calm and clear, far better for swimming than the surf-battered city beaches. It is unpolished and low on facilities, but that is the point: a slow, salty, working-coast atmosphere within reach of the city.

Launch Point for Churna

The village is the main embarkation point for the boat trips out to Churna Island, Pakistan's top dive and snorkelling site about half an hour offshore. Local boats and Karachi-based operators run day excursions for diving, snorkelling, cliff-jumping, and fishing. Even without going to Churna, the calm shallows here are good for a gentle snorkel over rocky patches close to shore.

Practicalities

Mubarak Village has minimal infrastructure, a handful of basic huts and food stalls rather than resorts. Bring your own water, sun protection, and anything else you need, arrange seafood with the village in advance if you want it fresh, and carry your rubbish back out. A private vehicle is the realistic way to get there; the final approach is rougher than the main coastal roads.

Planning tip

When to go, October to March for calm seas and comfortable temperatures, ideal for swimming and Churna Island trips.

Getting there, About 45 km west of central Karachi past Hawke's Bay and Sandspit, roughly a 1.5-hour drive on the Mubarak Village road. A private vehicle or an arranged transfer is the practical option.

Allow, A half to full day; easily combined with a Churna Island boat trip.
