Patan Minara is a solitary brick tower about 8 km east of Rahim Yar Khan on the edge of the Cholistan Desert. It is thought to be the last standing part of a much larger ancient town, Pattan Pur, once a river port on a branch of the Ghaggar-Hakra; scholars usually date it to around 250 BCE. Earth mounds around it mark a fort, a tank and houses.
