Hafiz Hayat in Gujrat District is named after the Sufi saint Hafiz Muhammad Hayat, who came from Delhi to Wazirabad in the Mughal period and became a disciple of Baqi Shah. He settled here and died in 1771. His shrine stands at the place, and the main campus of the University of Gujrat has since been built nearby.
