Sibi
One of Pakistan's oldest and hottest towns, on the Kacchi plain at the mouth of the Bolan Pass, home to the mud-walled Mir Chakar Fort and, each February, the great Sibi Mela livestock fair.
Sibi sits on the Kacchi plain exactly where the Bolan Pass opens out from the Balochistan highlands, and is widely reckoned among the hottest towns in Pakistan for much of the year. It is also one of the province's oldest continuously inhabited towns, home to the mud-walled Mir Chakar Fort, and each February it hosts the Sibi Mela, one of the subcontinent's great livestock fairs.

Mir Chakar Fort
A rectangular mud-brick fort with round corner bastions, associated with the 15th/16th-century Baloch chieftain Mir Chakar Khan Rind, one of the most storied names in Baloch oral history and tribal genealogy. The fort still dominates the town's skyline.
Sibi Mela
Each February since the 1880s, Sibi has hosted one of the subcontinent's great livestock fairs, horse and cattle trading, sword dance, folk music, and a tent city that briefly multiplies the town's population. It remains one of the surest ways to experience Balochi culture at full volume.
Gateway to Bolan and Mehrgarh
Sibi sits exactly where the Bolan Pass meets the Kacchi plain, making it the natural staging point for a Bolan Pass drive north to Quetta, or a short trip to Mehrgarh, the 9,000-year-old settlement a short distance away near Dhadar.
Planning tip
When to go, November to February only, outside this window Sibi's heat is genuinely extreme. Sibi Mela runs in late February each year.
Getting there, About 160 km, roughly 2.5-3 hours, south of Quetta through the Bolan Pass; Sibi is also a stop on the historic Sibi-Quetta railway.
Allow, Half a day to a full day; considerably longer during Sibi Mela, when the fairground and tent city take over the town.
