Ali Masjid, Khyber Pass
Ali Masjid, the narrowest point of the Khyber Pass, with a shrine to Hazrat Ali and a fort above.
Ali Masjid marks the narrowest point of the Khyber Pass in Khyber District, about 16 km east of Landi Kotal at 967 metres. It takes its name from a mosque and shrine to Hazrat Ali, where travellers on the old trade route stopped to pray. A fort above it was built in 1837 by the Afghan amir Dost Mohammad Khan, and the pass here was once too narrow for two laden camels to pass.
