Kulpai Smast & Abai Baba
The Buddhist site near Kulpai Smast and Abai Baba in Tangy Dara is an important remnant from the Kushan period.
Located along the ancient path from Tangy Dara to Kandaro, the site likely housed a stupa or monastic structure, possibly intended for religious gatherings or meditation. Remarkably, the site remains intact but appears to be unfinished, suggesting construction was halted before completion—possibly due to conflict, abandonment, or shifting political dynamics. Its architectural features reflect early Kushan influence, aligning it with the expansion of Buddhism in the region during the 1st–3rd centuries CE. The surrounding natural terrain would have offered isolation and serenity, ideal for spiritual use. Such sites offer valuable insight into the architectural and spiritual transitions of early Gandhara. Despite its state, the site has survived largely untouched by modern development.
