Manchar Lake
Pakistan's largest natural freshwater lake, near Sehwan, home to the Mohana 'boat people' who live and fish on its waters.
Manchar is the largest natural freshwater lake in Pakistan and one of the largest in South Asia, lying west of the Indus in Jamshoro and Dadu districts, 18 km from Sehwan. It gathers the streams of the Kirthar range and drains into the Indus, swelling from about 36 to as much as 500 square kilometres in the monsoon. The Mohana people, the lake's 'boat people', live and fish on it in their wooden houseboats, and ancient sites of the Harappan age, such as Lal Chatto and Lakhiyo, stand along its banks.
