Mangla Lake
A vast reservoir beside Mirpur, formed by the damming of the Jhelum, offering open water, boating, and sunset views alongside the historic Ramkot Fort.
Mangla is a complete change of scale from AJK's small alpine lakes. Created by the damming of the Jhelum, the reservoir spreads through a broad landscape of bays, headlands, and low green-brown hills around Mirpur and Mangla. Depending on current operators and reservoir conditions, boating and other recreational activities may be available, while the shoreline also provides sunset views and access toward historic sites. Most importantly, Mangla Lake forms the setting for Ramkot Fort, one of AJK's most dramatic heritage locations.

A Different Kashmir Landscape
Visitors expecting pine forest and snow peaks may be surprised by Mangla — this is warmer, broader country with enormous skies and long stretches of open water. Pair it with Mirpur's heritage rather than treating it only as a picnic lake.
