Stone Tool Factory
Stone Age flint-working sites on the Rohri Hills near Sukkur, where tools were knapped from the local flint for many thousands of years.
The Rohri Hills rise south-east of Rohri, across the Indus from Sukkur. They are less a range than a dissected limestone plateau, about 40 km long and 16 km wide, in one of the driest parts of upper Sindh. The limestone holds good flint, and the plateau is scattered with workshop sites where people shaped stone tools: the largest group of such factory sites in the region.

History
Flint tools of the Palaeolithic have been found here, and the flint went on being worked much later, including in the time of the Indus civilisation. No single date covers the site, which was used over a very long span. The area is listed as SD-60.

The hills start just south-east of Rohri, across the Indus from Sukkur. Tracks on the plateau are rough; go with a local driver who knows the area.
