Sukkur Barrage, built between 1923 and 1932 as the Lloyd Barrage, spans the Indus near Sukkur, about 5 km below the Sukkur Gorge. It feeds what is considered the largest single irrigation network of its kind in the world, watering land from Sukkur to Mirpurkhas, Tharparkar and Hyderabad. The idea was first proposed in 1868.
