Pasni

A working fishing port on the Makran coast, gateway for boats out to Astola Island and a quiet stop on the coastal highway between Ormara and Gwadar.

Pasni is a working fishing port on the Makran coast in Gwadar District, roughly 450 km from Karachi along the coastal highway. Fishing is the town's lifeblood, wooden boats crowd the harbour, and nets are mended along the shore most mornings. For travellers, Pasni's real role is as the launch point for Astola Island, Pakistan's largest offshore island, some 35 km out to sea, alongside the quieter Juddi Beach a short drive from town.

Why go

  • Main departure harbour for Astola Island (35 km, 1.5-2hr boat ride)
  • Juddi Beach, a quiet cove 5 km from town
  • Traditional wooden fishing-boat building
  • A working stop on the Makran Coastal Highway

Gateway to Astola Island

Boats to Astola depart from Pasni's harbour, arranged through a licensed local boatman; the crossing takes roughly 1.5 to 2 hours and can turn up dolphins or sea turtles along the way. Landing on Astola normally requires a permit, GreenPak can help arrange this alongside the boat.

Juddi Beach

About 5 km from Pasni town, Juddi Beach sits in a fold of coastal mountains, quieter and less visited than the beaches further along the highway, a good stop for an uncrowded swim or a picnic.

A Working Coast Town

Pasni is not a resort town, it is a genuine fishing port, and that is much of its appeal: the harbour, the boatyards, and the daily rhythm of the fleet going out and coming in. Most visitors treat it as a coastal-highway stop and Astola gateway rather than a multi-day destination in itself.

Planning tip

When to go, October to March, when coastal heat eases and the sea crossing to Astola is calmest.

Getting there, About 450 km (7-8 hours) from Karachi via the Makran Coastal Highway, or fly Karachi-Gwadar and drive roughly 1.5 hours. Boats to Astola Island depart from Pasni's harbour with a licensed boatman.
