Upper Kachura Lake
Upper Kachura Lake (Foroq Tso) near Skardu: a clear lake 70 m deep at about 2,500 m, far quieter than Shangrila below it.
Upper Kachura Lake, also called Foroq Tso, lies in Skardu District at about 2,500 metres. It is the higher of the two Kachura lakes; the lower one, Shangrila, is the lake with the resort. The upper lake has clear water about 70 metres deep, reaching around 15 °C in summer and freezing solid in winter, with the upper Indus flowing below it.

History
The lake is little developed because of the rough ground around it, which is much of its appeal. The slopes carry subalpine conifer forest and wild apricot orchards, and visitors come for walks and trout fishing.

Near Shangrila (Lower Kachura), outside Skardu; the last part is on foot over rough ground. Ask locally for the path.

Use Leave No Trace principles, carry out all rubbish, avoid disturbing wildlife and livestock, and respect private/community land.
Planning tip
Best Time to Visit, May to October. In winter the lake can freeze and the path gets icy.
