About Gadani & Sonmiani
Just across the Sindh-Balochistan border in Hub District, Gadani lies about 50 km west of Karachi and Sonmiani about 80 km north-west. Between them are dark-sand beaches, the cliffs of Bhit Khori and Miani Hor, a mangrove lagoon that is one of the most important wetlands on Pakistan's Arabian Sea coast.

Gadani is famous for one of the world's largest ship-breaking yards, a raw industrial shore; beyond the yards the beach runs on quietly. The sea is calmest in winter.

Sonmiani is a small village near the Winder River delta. The lagoon behind its sand spit holds extensive mangroves that shelter fish and, in winter, migratory birds; explore it by boat with a local operator.

Gadani Beach
Gadani is a long, dark-sand beach on the Balochistan coast 60 km north-west of Karachi, most famous as the site of one of the world's largest ship-breaking yards, a raw, industrial landscape where ocean freighters are dismantled on the shore. Beyond the yards, the beach extends for kilometres of uncrowded coastline backed by Makran hills, with clear Arabian Sea water and dramatic sunsets. It occupies a different register entirely from Karachi's commercial beaches: remote, working, and photographically extraordinary.
Miani Hor Lagoon
Miani Hor is a large coastal lagoon on the Balochistan coast near Sonmiani, north-west of Karachi, one of the most important wetlands on Pakistan's Arabian Sea shore. Sheltered from the open sea by a long sand spit, its calm waters hold extensive mangrove forests that nurse fish and shrimp and shelter a wealth of birdlife, from flamingos and pelicans to migratory waders following the great Indus flyway. It is a place for boat trips through the mangrove channels, birdwatching, and quiet beaches rather than crowds.
Bhit Khori
Bhit Khori (also spelt Bhit Khoori) is a rugged stretch of coastline west of Karachi near Hub, where golden, wind-sculpted cliffs and rock platforms meet the Arabian Sea. It is a favourite weekend escape for Karachi day-trippers, who come for the dramatic sea views, the rock pools and small coves below the cliffs, and the shore fishing, though the surf can be powerful and the rocks slippery, so it is more a place for scenery and care than for casual swimming. Its raw, eroded sandstone forms make it one of the more photogenic of the easy-to-reach coastlines beyond the city.
