Beaches Near Karachi Compared: Which One to Choose

For a short outing, Manora (by boat from Keamari) and Hawke's Bay or Sandspit (about 45 minutes west of the city) are the closest beaches to central Karachi. For calmer water and a trip to Churna Island, go to Mubarak Village. For quiet coast and an overnight stay, Gadani and Sonmiani in Balochistan are 1.5 to 2 hours away, and Kund Malir on the Makran Coastal Highway is the long-drive classic.

Karachi's beaches run west from the harbour along the Arabian Sea and on into Balochistan. They differ mainly in distance, how calm the water is, and how many facilities you will find. October to March is the season for all of them; in the summer monsoon the sea is rough and swimming is unsafe.

Closest to the city: Manora, Sandspit and Hawke's Bay

Manora is a small island at the mouth of Karachi Harbour, reached by a 20-minute passenger boat from Keamari or by road along the Sandspit. Its 38 m lighthouse dates from 1889, St Paul's Church from 1865, and the Manora Beachfront park, opened in 2021, makes the shore easy for families. West of the harbour, Sandspit and Hawke's Bay are the city's long sandy beaches, about 45 minutes by road, and important nesting grounds for green turtles.

Calm water: Mubarak Village and Churna Island

Mubarak Village is a fishing village at Karachi's western edge, about 30 km from the centre, with a sheltered bay that is usually calm in the cooler months. It is the launch point for boat trips to Churna Island for snorkelling and water sports. Facilities are minimal, so bring water and shade, and arrange boats and seafood with the villagers.

Quiet coast: Gadani, Sonmiani and Kund Malir

Across the Hub River in Balochistan, Gadani's long beach lies about 50 km west of Karachi beside one of the world's largest ship-breaking yards, and Sonmiani's broad, near-empty shore lies farther north-west. Both suit a night away from the city; GreenPak Lagoon Gadani and GreenPak Broadbeach Sonmiani offer packages from PKR 17,000 plus tax. Kund Malir, about 240 km west on the Makran Coastal Highway (roughly four hours, the last 150 km from Zero Point with no fuel stops), is the classic long drive, often combined with Hingol National Park.

Good to know: Karachi's beaches have strong currents. Paddle with care, keep children close, and stay out of the water in the summer monsoon months, when the sea is rough.
