Bhit Khori

Bhit Khori (also spelt Bhit Khoori) is a rugged stretch of coastline west of Karachi near Hub, where golden, wind-sculpted cliffs and rock platforms meet the Arabian Sea. It is a favourite weekend escape for Karachi day-trippers, who come for the dramatic sea views, the rock pools and small coves below the cliffs, and the shore fishing, though the surf can be powerful and the rocks slippery, so it is more a place for scenery and care than for casual swimming.

Its raw, eroded sandstone forms make it one of the more photogenic of the easy-to-reach coastlines beyond the city.

Why go

  • Eroded golden sea cliffs and rock platforms
  • Coves and rock pools
  • Popular Karachi weekend escape
  • Sea-view photography
  • Shore fishing spots

Cliffs and Coves

Bhit Khori's character is all in its rock. Soft golden sandstone has been carved by wind and sea into platforms, overhangs, and small coves, with rock pools that fill and empty on the tide. It is a place to scramble, explore, and photograph rather than to lie on a sandy beach, the appeal is the dramatic, sculpted meeting of land and ocean within easy reach of Karachi.

Care by the Sea

The same rocks that make Bhit Khori beautiful make it hazardous. The surf can be strong, the wet rock platforms are slippery, and there are no lifeguards or safety infrastructure of any kind. Watch the sea state, keep well back from the edge in big swell, supervise children closely, and treat the water with respect, this is a scenic coast, not a swimming resort.

A Karachi Day Out

Bhit Khori works best as a relaxed half-day from the city, often combined with the other beaches along the Hub coast. There are no facilities, so bring water, food, sun protection, and a bag for your rubbish. Go early to beat both the heat and the weekend crowds, and check that your vehicle can handle the final unpaved stretch down toward the shore.

Planning tip

When to go, October to March for comfortable weather and calmer seas; avoid the rough monsoon surf in summer.

Getting there, West of Karachi past Hub on the Balochistan side, reached by road and a final stretch of track, roughly 1.5-2 hours from central Karachi. A private vehicle is needed, and some sections suit a higher-clearance car.
