Al-Sadiq Mosque is the principal congregational mosque of Bahawalpur, covering 24 kanals with room for nearly 60,000 worshippers at once. According to the Punjab government's archaeological handbook, its foundation was laid more than two hundred years ago by Khawaja Noor Muhammad Maharvi, spiritual guide to the Abbasi rulers. Successive Nawabs added to it, and the last ruler, Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi V, had it largely rebuilt after his return from the Hajj in 1935.
