Field guides / Azad Jammu and Kashmir / Dao Khan
Field guide · Nature
A quiet mountain retreat at roughly 2,490m about 4km above Reshian, where cool forests and open views offer a slower alternative to the main Leepa route.
Dao Khan is only about 4km from Reshian, but the gain in elevation changes the atmosphere quickly. The air cools, settlement becomes lighter, and the surrounding forest and mountain slopes dominate the view. It has long been recognised as a summer tourist stop, with government tourism and forest accommodation historically available in the area — more importantly, Dao Khan offers a place where doing very little is the point.
Why go
Dao Khan suits travellers who prefer a quiet night in the mountains rather than constantly moving between attractions. Short walks, changing cloud, sunset, and early-morning views are the experience, and it works well before or after a Leepa journey.
Accommodation and road conditions should be confirmed before arrival rather than assumed, particularly outside peak summer.
