Government College, Lahore, opened in 1864: a Gothic-revival campus of Lahori brick and black Chiniot stone, crowned by its clock tower.
Government College, now Government College University, stands in the heart of Lahore. Its main building combines Lahori brick with black Chiniot stone, in a Gothic-revival style, with a tall clock tower over the lawns.

History
The college opened on 1 January 1864 in part of the haveli of Raja Dhyan Singh and was first affiliated to the University of Calcutta. Its first principal, Gottlieb Wilhelm Leitner, later helped found the University of the Punjab in 1882.
