A green valley landscape in eastern Kotli District where springs, wooded hills, and village roads lead into Banah Valley, with documented rock-cut caves nearby.
Khoiratta is the gateway to Banah Valley, one of the landscapes now specifically promoted by AJK Tourism. Unlike the high alpine valleys farther north, Banah is about green hills, natural watercourses, village scenery, and a gentler rhythm of travel. The wider Khoiratta area also has a significant heritage layer: AJK's archaeology department has documented rock-cut caves near Khoiratta carrying ancient architectural and script traditions, as well as historic forts elsewhere in the Banah region.
Why go
This is a place for driving short distances, stopping often, and exploring with local knowledge; there is no single viewpoint that defines the whole valley. Where heritage sites are involved, obtain local guidance rather than assuming every archaeological location is signposted.
A local guide adds considerable value here, both for landscape stops and for finding lesser-known heritage sites.
