The Tomb of Anarkali is an octagonal Mughal monument in the grounds of the Punjab Civil Secretariat, near the Mall and south-west of Lahore's Walled City. Built in 1599 or 1615, it is one of the earliest Mughal tombs still standing. Legend says Jahangir raised it for Anarkali, a woman Akbar suspected of a romance with the prince, though there is no firm historical proof she existed. It now houses the Punjab Archives.
