Tor Dheri Stupa, Loralai
Tor Dheri, also spelled Tor Dherai or Tor Dhari, is the most important Buddhist site in the Loralai District of Balochistan.
Tor Dheri Stupa dates back to the 1st to 3rd century CE, during the time when Buddhism was spreading through the region under the Kushan Empire. The site features the remains of a large Buddhist stupa built on a raised stone platform, with visible stone columns (pilasters) and a staircase on the northeast side. These remains show that it was once a place of religious and cultural importance, likely used by Buddhist monks. Although the site is officially protected under Pakistan’s Antiquities Act, it is poorly preserved today and has not been properly excavated or maintained. Tor Dheri stands as a forgotten part of Pakistan’s Buddhist heritage, needing more attention and conservation.
