Buni, also spelled Booni, is the headquarters of Upper Chitral District, lying at the foot of Buni Zom. Close by are the Qaqlasht Meadows, at about 2,500 metres, where a major regional festival is held. Most people here are Kho and speak Khowar. Glacial lakes above the town have caused floods, most recently in August 2024.
