Hispar Pass (Hispar La)
A 5,128 m pass where the Hispar and Biafo glaciers meet: the longest glacier traverse outside the polar regions, about 100 km.
The Hispar Pass, or Hispar La, is a high but non-technical pass at 5,128 metres in the Karakoram of Nagar district. Here the 49 km Hispar Glacier meets the 63 km Biafo Glacier, and together they make the longest glacial traverse in the world outside the polar regions, about 100 km from Nagar to Askole in Baltistan. Near the pass the Biafo opens into Snow Lake, a vast basin of ice ringed by peaks.
