Kalasha Dur Museum, Bumburet
The 'House of the Kalasha' in Bumburet: a museum and cultural centre of the Kalash people, with some 1,300 objects of their life and faith.
Kalasha Dur, 'the House of the Kalasha', also called the Bumburet Museum, is a museum and cultural centre in the Bumburet valley of Lower Chitral. It was built between 2001 and 2005 with Greek volunteers and Greek government aid, in traditional style: stone walls over a concrete frame, with the parallel wooden beams and carved verandas of Kalash houses. It shows about 1,300 objects of the Kalash and the wider Hindu Kush, and its upper floor holds a school of Kalash culture, a library and a training hall for local craftspeople. A shrine of Jestak, the deity who protects families, stands by the entrance.
