Karchai Fort, Kotli
A large limestone fort on a peak in Kotli district, with water tanks, arrow slits and wide views, from the Sikh or Dogra period.
Qila Karchai stands on top of a peak in Kotli district, a large fort of irregular plan built of limestone in lime mortar. Its walls are pierced with niches and slits of different sizes in decorative patterns, and the entrance faces southwest, with guard rooms just inside. Two large water tanks of burnt brick survive, along with the foundations of many rooms and the steps leading up to the fort. Its size and commanding position mark it as a key stronghold, probably of the Sikh or Dogra period.
