Kotli
A lively hill town on the Poonch River system and the natural base for Tattapani, Teenda, Sehnsa, and the valleys of southern Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Kotli gives travellers a useful introduction to a side of AJK that looks and feels very different from Neelum. The mountains are lower, summers warmer, and the landscape shifts between green hills, river valleys, and densely settled ridges. As the district headquarters, Kotli has the services needed for a proper travel base: markets, accommodation, food, and road connections leading toward Mirpur, Islamabad, Tattapani, and Khoiratta.

Base Before the Backroads
Kotli is not primarily a viewpoint destination; its value is strategic. Tattapani lies to the north, Teenda provides an easy nearby viewpoint, the Sehnsa side contains historic Tharochi Fort, and Khoiratta opens the route into Banah Valley.

When to go, October to April for mild weather; spring is particularly pleasant. Summer can be very hot.
