Manthal Buddha Rock
Manthal Buddha Rock is an important Buddhist site located in Manthal village near Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan.
The rock features a large relief sculpture of Buddha, likely dating back to the 8th century. This site was largely unknown until the early 20th century when Scottish traveler Ella Christie highlighted it in her 1906 book on her journey to Western Tibet, bringing international attention to the monument. Prior to the spread of Islam, the region was predominantly Buddhist, and many such Buddha carvings are found in the area. The site is now recognized and preserved by the government, attracting tourists interested in the region's Buddhist heritage.
