Nomal, Gilgit
A green oasis on the Hunza River 25 km north of Gilgit, and the gateway to the Naltar valley.
Nomal is a small town on the Hunza River, 25 km north of Gilgit, joined by a metalled road to the villages of Naltar. Aurel Stein called it 'a green oasis in the otherwise barren valley of the river which comes from Hunza'. The Naltar River flows through its northern end and waters the whole valley, and since the days of the Rajas the town has been divided into mohallahs such as Sigal, Majini, Jigot and Batot. A concrete bridge links it across the Hunza River to the Karakoram Highway.
